35-hectare work site

In 2023, a roundwood loading site was completed in Seinäjoki. The construction site covered a 35-hectare area in total. The expertise of all Sundsrtöm’s units was utilized in this project commissioned by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. Sundström was responsible for the implementation of the entire project.

On an area that was almost entirely covered by forest, the following was constructed:

  • A 17-hectare roundwood loading site
  • 2.5 kilometers of new, partially asphalted road and an underpass bridge
  • Over 7 kilometers of railway track with sub- and superstructure. The electrification of the track was handled by Sundström’s subsidiary, Rautatieto.

Crushed rock put to good use

Before the land construction, half of the roundwood loading site was covered by rock up to 15 meters high. 300,000 m³ of rock was excavated and crushed on-site. The crushed rock was utilized in the roundwood loading site.
